Seaweed, plants and a friendly bearded dragon

One thing I love about going to new places is taking notice and appreciating nature. Surprisingly on our visit to Wrights Bay, near Robe, is that is not that much different from Pelican Point, where our holiday house is.

The plants on the dunes, and the seaweed on the beach are similar, even the reefs that sprawl out into the ocean. I could not help but take photos, of the bright colours, textures and interesting shapes.

We had a friendly and curious bearded dragon that dropped in at our campsite also, which was a little scary and funny at the same time. Summer and I were most entertained by him as he came right up and perched in the shade with us for a while like an old camping friend. He certainly like the minced meat I threw on the ground, and is probably why he came back the next day.

Taking the scenic route

We set of yesterday to try and find cockles down at the Canunda National Park. Before we even left home it may have been obvious that we should have just stayed home.

While not much seemed like it was going right, it all ended well in the end. We didn't find cockles, there was a lot of weed on the beach and the sea was an awful brown colour because of it.

Summer was beside herself and crying while we drove along. Something has spooked her about driving on the beach. Brett didn't help matters when he mentioned he didn't want to get stuck because the car would end up in the ocean. Good move Brett....not! She wailed a little louder.

On the way out of the national park, we stopped at the big sandhill. It's no so big as it used to be when I was a kid. I wish the council had never excavated most of the sand away for use somewhere else. What were they thinking?! It's always been a legendary local landmark. Bloody crazy.

We took the scenic route home and come across a patch of belladonna lillies. Summer had stopped crying, but still wouldn't get out of the car.

Belladonna lillies are also known as Easter lillies, as they flower at this time of year. There were also what looked like freesias and jonquils coming up too, so I will be back again to have a look.

It is common where an old homestead once was, to find remnants of the home garden still coming up every year. Not far from here, there is another site where we've dug up wild garlic. There's a fig tree there too, but I would never walk through the long grass to get to them in a fit. I don't fancy coming across a big arse brown snake!

Lake McIntyre in spring time

This is one of the best places in town to get back to nature, especially in Spring time. I wouldn't leave the camera home, as there is so much beauty to capture.

I love seeing the changing environment, the birdlife, flowers, and also the changing levels of water. I've said it before, this has been one of the wettest years and we are just getting some nice spring weather now (thank you mother nature), so the lake has plenty of water.

Lake McIntyre in August

I love walks around the lake. The girls like exploring too.

A couple of weeks ago, I got down there on my own and was shocked when I realised I had taken over 200 photos. It's no wonder the batteries went flat down the beach. Not hard to do with so much to look at and admire. Here's some that turned out ok. Well lots actually, sorry :)

This reminds me of soldiers all standing in a row

Easy to see why grevilleas are sometimes called spider flowers!
