Roadtrip to the footy

After reading through a few #IBOT posts last night, I got onto cooking cupcakes for the photo day/morning tea at kindy tomorrow. It's not usually a kindy day for us, I'd have rather bummed around the house than had to be there at a quarter to 9 on our 'day off'. Oh well.

While the cupcakes cooked I uploaded these photos from our weekend in Adelaide. Twas a good one, except for the bit on Mother's day on the way home, where I sat in the back squished between two car seats with my annoying darling children either side.

It was like a little holiday. Except when we got home, I felt like I really need a holiday. Alone!

We stopped in Kingston, across the road from the Big Lobster to eat our ham sandwiches. The girls ate chips.

Keeper of the stereo aka Jake

So glad my boy decided to come with us.

On our way home, Mother's Day. We stopped at the Hahndorf Farm Barn. Rubber boots
is the best footwear. You tread on a lot of poo.

Summer was fearless. I was worried the goats were going to eat her jumper off her back!

See the paper feed bag. A deer would later take it and eat it, food, paper and all! It was hilarious.

What's on the box? #openslather

I had no intentions of watching it, but there was nothing else on. Who else watched The Bachelor last night?! I got well and truly sucked in from the start, how could I not? Tim is hot! I think it's the smile, I'm not sure.

Tim Robards. See the smile. It's a smile worth googling ;)

I am sure, that I had that dumb subconscious grin while watching the rose ceremony. It that look on your face, that if you catch yourself with, you instantly change it, in case someone is watching.

Being one of those last five girls without a rose must be very disappointing and a blow to one's confidence. I wonder if they are counselled after the show. I was glad to see Jolene there, she wasn't a very nice person.

I'm not sure how long I will stay sucked in by the show, it seems to have filled the void left by Masterchef for me, for now. I'm expecting it's shine to wane, it's something I don't usually watch.

I know I have no time for Big Brother.

I know I will be watching AFL football this Friday night; Port Adelaide takes on Geelong to try to make it further into the finals. Port beat Collingwood on Saturday night, it was awesome. I can't believe I'm saying that. As a Collingwood supporter, I never thought I would say that. Shame on me.

Save with Jamie

I loved Save with Jamie, it was on TEN on Thursday night, after The Project. I'm always inspired to cook something fantastic after seeing a Jamie Oliver show, cook anything! I made focaccia and pizza the next day, couldn't help myself.

What have you been loving on the box?

An arvo at AAMI, Port vs Carlton

On Saturday arvo, along with forty five thousand others, we made our way to AAMI Stadium in West Lakes, for the last of the AFL home and away matches.

It was a snap decision earlier in the week to go and see Port Adelaide take on Carlton. It's the first time we'd been to AAMI, and the girls first ever AFL footy match.

It was packed, the atmosphere was awesome, and the kids were perfect. The only complaint from Izzy was when she couldn't hear my phone from all the noise in the last quarter, she took numerous photos of the back of the head of the man in front of us. Summer slept through most of the last half and woke to chants of 'Power, power, power', and the raucous that comes with a close tussle.

Port dominated up until the last quarter when Carlton came back from nowhere to win by a point. I like to think Kenny (the port coach) told the boys to take it easy in that last quarter, to save themselves for this weekends final against Collingwood. That's my theory for Port losing and I'm sticking by it.

I heard a Carlton supporter yell out "Carlton are playing like shit, and we're still beating them", keep thinking that sunshine, they let you have it.

I haven't really followed much of Collingwoods games this season, so I'll will be torn watching this Saturday night. I'm a sucker for going for the underdog, so I think my heart will be with Port. I am a South Australian after all.

The sun sunk below the members stand during half time, so we got some reprieve after that. Lots of sunscreen before then.

Dad's influence. Throwing undies up into the fan, and watching them fly around the room.
It had us all cackling in the hotel room that morning.

A hairy weekend of footy....

I have mentioned it before, I know, I am loving Port Power at the moment. I am excited about football, and for some god forsaken reason I am compelled to write about it, so I am running with it. Please bear with me.

I was worried for them on the weekend, when they went head to head with West Coast. Everyone in the football world had their honeymoon run over by the end of the second quarter. Even Brett went all sad sack and more or less gave up on them. No faith I tells ya.

I am one of those footy fans that holds on to hope, that believes anything is possible. I wasn't ready to write them off, the start of the season had been too good for them.

What followed in the rest of the game was impressive, the 41 point comeback was just bloody awesome. A fitting end to Kane Cornes' 250th game.

They played at home, to an impressive crowd. A near to full house at a Power home game last season was unheard of, except maybe for a showdown(when both SA teams meet). There would have been more tumbleweeds than supporters.

The club president, David Koch, the Powers' answer to Collingwoods Eddie McGuire, must be delighted with the season, with almost 40 000 members this year already, breaking previous membership records.

What seemed like an easy game for Port away this weekend against the Kangaroos(Nth Melb),  may well be a nail biter at Blundstone Stadium in Tasmania, after North Melbournes narrow 3 point loss to Hawthorn.
Josh 'twinkle toes' Kennedy

Eagles forward, Josh Kennedy, had Brett and I giggling our tits off. He will forever be referred to from now on as 'twinkle toes', for the Fred Flintonesque run up as he was kicking for goal. It was hilarious.

At the risk of the them scoring, Brett was hoping he would mark the ball for another shot, just so he could see it again! He got his wish. It was still funny.

The game was a bit like the battle of the beards. Hirsuteness has been the flavour of the year in the AFL. There is not a hairy leg or chest to be seen, but facial fuzz seems to be as popular as sliced bread.
Ports' Justin Westoff

West Coasts' Chris Masten

Will Schofield, looking dashingly rugged.....

Will Schofield did not play for West Coast in the clash, however a couple of weeks ago gave away his 'bushranger' beard for charity. He raised over $15000 for the Cancer Council.

As impressive as Ports win over the weekend, is Crows forward Taylor 'Tex' Walkers mullet. The last time I'd seen a mullet like this in footy I was a good catholic school girl, listening to 80s music and kissing posters of rock stars on my bedroom wall.

The 80s mullet, Business at the front, party at the back

Unfortunately for Crows fans, and Tex, his mullet won't be gracing footy grounds anywhere, stuffing his knee, and putting him out for the rest of  the season.
Tex, contemplating his season after doing his knee

My poor 83 year old Gran won't be happy. If you can imagine her(rough as guts) and her sister(quite reserved) sitting in her lounge room yelling at the big screen, "Go, Crows". My uncle goes outside in the shed when they watch footy, he can't stand the noise!

I've turncoated for a toddler bed

I was all set to watch the Anzac Day match between Collingwood and Essendon. I'd positioned myself on our new reclining lounge, excited, watched the telecast leading up to the game, and then it happened.

Brett suggested we go for a drive. To go shopping.

Brett has been itching to put Summer in a single bed for a couple of weeks. I have been stalling him because we needed to get a bed guard first, and well, she can get out of a bed, she can't get out of a cot.

Quite frankly, I was getting a bit bored waiting for the match to start, and he mentioned shopping. So after a hurried check of the nappy bag and filling up of drink containers, we were off.

Three shopping centres later, we had a bed guard, a fitted sheet and a quilt cover set(marked down to $5), amongst other stuff. We didn't go too bat shit crazy, we did pretty good considering the amount of cheap, on sale and marked down bargains that were screaming at us, well me. I was proud of my restraint.

Needless to say, Summer has successfully slept in her 'big girls bed' three nights in a row. The first time she got out herself and wandered into the loungeroom at 9:30 at night it was adorable, my little big girl. She went straight back to sleep after a quick rock and I layed her down again.
The morning after, Izzy climbed in when Summer woke up.

Thankfully it's been smooth sailing so far. Phew! I am sure it is going to all turn to crap at some point.

Back to the footy. I haven't sat down and watched ONE Collingwood game this year! What is going on here! I have however, watched EVERY Port Power game. I have looked forward to watching EVERY Port Power game, excited about it too. I am feeling a bit weird about it and am feeling like a total turncoat.

It's footy season again!

If you live in the southern states, you would be well aware that the 2013 AFL footy season has begun. This past weekend, the second round of weekly games were played. For the second week in a row, I have sat down and watched the Port Power game, all of it, and thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm excited about their season, excited to see the new talent(more about that later, wink..wink).

While Collingwood is and always will be my one and only, I do have a soft spot for Port. After all, I am a South Australian who loves the Magpies, Port Adelaide was my favourite SANFL team. Port Power happens to be my hubbys team too, or should I say, is still his favourite team. After their dismal embarrassing grand final loss several years ago and their poor performance since, he was ready to disown them.

Summer is supposed to inherit his Port support, like I claimed Izzy for the Maggies. She did have a little Port jumper when she was about 3 months old, but we(or he) has failed to buy her any Port paraphernalia, you know, the scarf, the beany. Gotta do something about that. Izzy is all kitted out with a Collingwood guernsey, beany and scarf. There has even been talk of going to a Port game when we go to Adelaide soon. Dunno how that is going to go with two small kids! I am not sure about how much footy we will actually see (coz u know I won't be trying to catch a perv of the new talent!).

Port have started the 2013 season amazingly well, it is good to see. However the teams they have played aren't the best and I fear after the fourth round they may find it tough, and lose their place near the top of the ladder. One can only hope that an early run of wins will give them a boost to keep playing like champions.

One player that is already marking himself as a Port legend is Jay Schulz. After the gutsy and controversial goal on the line last week, and the goal this week that put Port in the front in the second quarter. The team never looked back, beating the Giants by a shit load ( that would translate into about 8-9 goals).

The dynamics between Jake Neade and Chad Wingard were exciting to watch in the third quarter, just bloody football magic to be exact. I am so bloody glad I witnessed that. Thank god  for channel seven broadcasting that game! There is no Foxtel in this house, and with the promise that 7, will play every SA game, I am hoping to hell they play the Showdown next weekend or there is going to be a HUGE hissy fit in this household!! From me!! For those not in the know, the Showdown is the game between the Adelaide Crows and Port Power. I hope to Christ the Power get it right up the Crows and win!

Lastly down to the (h.. hmm) new talent. It's the dark horse that appears in the last quarter for Port in both games. Rookie Kane Mitchell, with his Daniel Day Lewis(circa 1989) hair do. It has me and Brett asking "Who is this guy?". Well I went looking and found this photo, ah blur blah blah blur blur!!! Lol. God damn!! I just like Port Power more and more!
23 year olds aren't meant to look this good. Are they?
New bonds(james bond!!) man? Move over Pat Rafter!
Crikey!!
