I do recall not so long ago my Mum having a good whinge on Facebook about Halloween not being an Australian thing to do. Lo and behold a few years later, here she is hosting her home as a drop in for kids this year.
It was a hot 35 degrees yesterday as we drove around town dropping in to generous hosts who had put their homes forward in a local group for Halloween.
As usual I donned the face paint too (doh, no photo), with a jokeresque twist.
After our Halloween trick or treating was over, I went straight to doing two bank cleans. God help them if they have recorded CCTV, because they will be quite amused with the face of the cleaner!
It's funny isn't it? Even since I've had my first kid it's become far more common - quite a few house we went to had no kids but still got into it. Including some 20 year olds that sat on the balcony of their undecorated house, drinking wine, with a bowl of candy that they yelled at kids to take some if they missed it. It was quite sweet.
ReplyDeleteI don't like the commercialism and the way we "followed" US on Halloween but I am starting to see the community benefits as you mention as does Lydia. I actually made some little lolly packs up for kids who may have turned up and we had 3 Year 7 boys with great manners and that was it. Love the photos...and the title! Denyse x
ReplyDeleteAw, cute! We had such terrible weather last night with pouring rain and damaging winds...so bad, in fact, that all of our local schools have been cancelled today. Yet, the children were out in droves! I ran out of candy to give out in just over an hour and there were 3 hours allotted for trick or treat time! And I had a lot of candy! Fun stuff! Happy Halloween and Happy November!
