Somewhere I don't belong

My place in time #77

Izzy was riding her bike ahead as I pushed Summer home in the pram. We had just been to the playground.

She stopped at a gate, got off her bike and stood, looking through and watching what was going on.

When I caught up she reached for the latch on the gate. My heart kind of skipped a beat. Should we go in?

It seemed like some exclusive club, where outsiders weren't invited. Certainly not a place for children to be running around.

I said, "No we can't go in there".
She said "But I just want to go and watch".

After some convincing in my head, I thought there wouldn't be any harm in sitting and watching. We opened the gate, the kids had a ball, and I quite enjoyed taking photos. They didn't run too much of amok. Most of the oldies were pleased to see them, some had looks like I had two heads! I guess they don't get a mum and her two kids dropping in too often for a visit.

We stayed for about 45 minutes, I think I am going to have some trouble getting past the gate again when we go walking past.

'My place in time' is a local area history project set by Kell at Blackcurrant Photography

  1. Love it, my kids like watching lawn bowls too. Probably as they know a few of the oldies who walk past our house and stop and talk to them. Not sure mine would last 45 minutes though!! Great pics, love the idea of your place in time.

    1. Izzy didn't want to leave, she was having fun ducking in and out of the shelters and walking around the lawns. Summer just ran around following her.

  2. Beautiful photographs. Bowling is fun, we have done barefoot bowls before. Kids love watching something different.

    1. Thanks Tanya. Izzy was very interested in going to see what was going on.

  3. I love lawn bowls! I find it so enjoyable and relaxing when I've played it and I'm not too bad at it if I do say so myself! :)

    1. Oh good on you, they have social bowls on Wednesday nights for the public to put their own teams in. It looks like it might take a bit of practice with those wonky balls :)
It reminded me of the movie Crackerjack, I had to have a little chuckle to myself when I saw a bloke take out the measure.

  4. lovely Alicia - I love how our kids don't see barriers to connection the way we do. Our daughter's class last year visited the local nursing home fortnightly. I ended up going a few times and doing up a video - it was lovely.

Thanks for so much visiting, and even more so for leaving a friendly comment!
