Halloween

Halloween has never been a big deal with me in the past, it's not something that has come into my radar at all. It was only last year that a few kids came knocking on my door dressed in their spooky and scary costumes. I was totally unprepared and had limited things to give them.

I suppose learning about it at school was the reason, and the only one I can think of, that saw the rise in interest. Our local woolies has a vast array of merchandise this year, the first time I have seen it featured before so heavily. The cheap shop has gone nuts with it too, obviously cottoning on to the increase in participants. I admired the cool stuff they had for sale, and bought some witches fingers, draculas teeth, chocolate coins and cheap lollipops, to put in these little baskets I printed off and made.

I joined in on the list of 'friendly' houses that a lady compiled in our town, which I thought was an awesome idea, and waited for the kids. They came, not as many as I expected but, I gave away about 16 of these little baskets.  I loved seeing the kids in their costumes, and loved that some of the parents dressed up too. I really enjoyed participating and it's all about the kids.

These dudes were cool. Their masks cracked me up.

I made these biscuits too, I saw them on Kidspot and thought they were the coolest thing ever!

My mum (who I love to bits) posted this on facey, and I replied.

I agree.Halloween is a load of crap. Who would let their children go door to door seeking trick or treats .Dope cookies and god know what they could come across.I once nearly got my ankle torn off just walking passed someones rottweiller.

geez Mum, hows the view from your high horse. I loved having the kids come round, there is a lady that makes a list of friendly houses participating and I was in that. Saves kids wasting time knocking on horrible peoples doors and eating dope cookies! Might take Izzy on the rounds next year :P

How was your halloween?

Not a gardeners arsehole

Nothing scares me more, than when Brett decides he is going to do some 'cutting back' in the garden. It scares me because as much as he thinks he's a gardener, he's not a gardeners arsehole. He's a man, with a motor, with attachments, and he's not afraid to use it. Much to my horror.

After a few beers, he informed me of his plans. I protested. He insisted that it was too overgrown and he couldn't walk through this part of the garden. For ten years, no one walked through that part of the garden, I protested again, it's garden, it's not meant to be walked through.

I'm not sure why doing this part of the garden is so important right now. I reminded him of the other jobs that needed doing, the fly screen on the backdoor. The chicken wire, keeping the kids out of the pond was loose. The ivy is taking over the path in the fern area, that we do walk through. Chopping out the crap weed trees that have come up here and there, from the birds crapping out the seeds. I see jobs that need doing, he sees an opportunity to use his multi attachment pruner, hedger, chainsaw, whipper snipper, and I protested referring to an extension of his dick!

When he had gone out the next morning, I went and inspected the area, because I didn't want him to see me looking at it, maybe giving him an inkling that I thought he might be right.......I think he might be right. I could see where some things could be cut back, just a bit. I could see a nice little area where a bird bath or something could sit, hidden away in a little garden nook.

We agreed that when he finished the little jobs, he could go gung ho and clear out the patch. The idea has grown on me, and he's creating another aspect to our garden, another garden room.
Sometimes I have to give up control, to trust, to let him have ideas and see them through. It's his garden too. Let's face it, since having the girls, I don't have the time to give to the garden that I used to, I should and do appreciate any help that he does give. I haven't mowed the lawns for over three years, something I would have rather done myself before, because I didn't like the slap dash way he did it. I've learned to shut my mouth and get over the missed bits or the gouges where he's had the cutter too low. I just appreciate it done. I appreciate my hubby, even though, I still think he's not a gardeners arsehole.

Jobs done!! He made a start on 'his' garden clearing, and I can now see what he envisioned. I am excited and impatient now to put something in there now, to complete the picture. We have put a few fairies in there, for Izzy, and now we just need to find a nice seat to put there. I'd like a nice iron one.

Double Delight - Open Slather

These roses are absolutely stunningly beautiful, and smell heavenly. I have two standards in the driveway, I'm so glad they survived the move. They were at the front of the house before we built on,  I pruned them back and moved them in the middle of Summer(totally the wrong time) nearly two years ago.

Just like a chocolate paddle pop....only homemade

You know when you get invited to a tupperware party, and you look for the cheapish things that you think you might use. These icy tups were one of the things I ordered that I thought I might use. I bought them almost a year ago. I have used them, with a recipe containing jelly a couple of times. I don't know how but I managed to lose one along the way too, god knows where, Izzy probably discarded it somewhere in the garden, never to be seen again. It's always after the fact, you see them somewhere for much cheaper in the shops, I'm such a sucker. I keep telling myself, they are worth it though because you can put the cup upside down on to the handle and it catches the drips. That's all good til they tip it up all over themselves!

I came across this recipe the other day. With the weather warming up, I thought I'd better getting my moneys worth from them, instead of cluttering up my junk draw.

                             Chocolate Ice Creams

2 cups milk
2 tblsp sugar
1 tblsp cocoa
1 tblsp cornflour
Bring the milk to the boil. Whisk in the sugar, cocoa and cornflour, stirring continuously until the mix thickens.Pour into moulds and freeze until solid.

Add ice magic
Devour!!

Liebster Award!

I have previously recieved one of these. Mel from Just winging it. Parenting by the seat of my pants has kindly passed another one my way. Thankyou Mel :)

So what is a Liebster Award? The award is given to support and recognise up and coming bloggers who have less than 200 followers (on their blog) or likers (on their Facebook page). The word “Liebster” apparently has German origins and is reported to mean sweetest, kindest, nicest, dearest, beloved, lovely, kind, pleasant, valued, cute, endearing, and welcome. By following some basic rules (answer 11 questions set by your nominee, write 11 questions of your own and pass the award onto 11 other bloggers to answer) it enables readers to get to know new bloggers and connect with a wider audience.

Questions set by Mel

1.      How long have you been blogging/had a Facebook page for?  I started blogging in May of this year, my first post was about laying in a pissy bed,  thanks to my daughter Izzy. The facebook page came later.

2.      Why did you start blogging? Just to write things down somewhere, I had no idea how big it was and how many  friendly people were out there in blog world.

3.      What should you be doing right now, instead of blogging? Sleeping!

4.      Name 3 items you could grab from where you are sitting? Drink bottle, phone, tissues.

5.      Are you a morning or evening person?  I would say evening, I don't like getting out of bed in the morning. Maybe I should go to  bed earlier. But evening is me time, and morning is "Mum, muuuum, muuuuuum"....all  day!!

6.      What book are you currently reading? Nothing. I hardly get to read the local rag in peace.

7.      Where were you born? Mt Gambier, South Australia.

8.     How many times in your life have you moved and where to? About 7 times. The last 5 have been in the town I am in now, we moved here when I  was 12. I've been in this house for 10 years.

9.      Are you a coffee or tea drinker?  Both. Mostly coffee.

10.   What is the next country on your travel wish list? I haven't been OS, ever, unless you count Tassie. For some reason I would like to go to  Noumea.

11.   Are you spontaneous or a planner?  I would say planner, I like to know what is going to happen and when. I have to think about being spontaneous, which I think defeats the purpose.

Pintsized Plonky

It was our usual monthly mothers group, I took along a bottle of non alcoholic bubbly. Two of us are breast feeding and one is expecting her third, besides the fact we had to drive home.

My friend Katie posted this photo on my facebook page of Summer playing with the empty. Instead of cleaning my house last night, and after finding the drunk baby meme (which had me in fits of laughter), I created these.

Can you think of a funny caption for this photo?
