Birdlife at Casa Pelicano

I spent the weekend at the holiday shack all by myself last weekend. It was a much needed break away from my usual mum and wife duties, which if you ask me were causing some grief for me.

I sat on the front veranda, wine perched next to me, camera in hand and took in the sounds and sights of all the life around me.

It was a delight to find a blue wren family has bred three babies in the horrible Portuguese laurel tree in the front yard. There is an upside to being too lazy to chop it down!

I came out of the weekend with a new affirmation after feeling a bit woe is me about feeling not cared for, which is bullshit. We all have two sides to our brain, the emotional side and the thinking side.  My emotional side has been getting a bit carried away.

"I am cared for and appreciated in all I do"

I can now add this to the other affirmations I have written down in my journal, which I don't refer to enough!

"I am loved and supported"

"I am my own person. I am individual and unique. I am good enough"

"I am worthy of love and respect. I love myself enough not to give myself away to other people"

It is not uncommon to see kangaroos bouncing around this paddock in the mornings.

The chair pontoon on the reef

The girls favourite place to play at Pelican Point is at "the chair". A rustic bench set on a pontoon on the sandy reef.

We spent a fair bit of time there recently, exploring the reef. In the afternoon the water is warm, the rockpools deep enough to swim in. Like a spa.

In the evening, we can see steam rising from the water as the night air cools.

In the morning a sea mist blurred the line between sea and sky on the horizon. The water was a little cooler as the tide rose during the night, bringing in the cold water from beyond the reef.

What a fabulous natural playground!

Haybale views

Last week we had a break at the beach house in Pelican Point. Well tried, it's nice to be at the beach, but it's a bit like...same shit, different house. Hence my absence last Monday. I did try to post using the internet on my phone, but no success.

The house has been pretty well booked out since before Christmas, we took the opportunity to stay while we can! I've been busy coming and going cleaning and changing linen too, even Christmas morning. It's been hectic.

Every time I saw these views on the way, on the Tantanoola/Kongorong road, I have said many times I should stop, I wish I had the camera.

Well I made the point of stopping this time.  I am so glad I stopped, because a week later they are gone, and the paddock harvested and flat.

We were treated with an amazing sunset on the first night. Pelican Point was showing off, as we had friends drop in for a BBQ dinner after exploring the beaches.

Exploring Red Rock Bay

We are so lucky to have a such a fabulous natural playground right on our doorstep. Red Rock Bay is a short drive from our holiday house in Pelican Point, where we spent the weekend.

I saw things I have not seen here before and I've been here lots of times! Seals for one thing, and also real live sea urchins. The moving spines on the urchins look like moving appendages, it was mesmerising! I had only seen dead ones washed up on the shore.

Another thing that had us going for a closer look was a rusty Landrover carcass, obviously swallowed by the ocean and then spat out again, after the salty raging sea had taken it's toll. It is amazing the sea has this much force, tumbling  an entire vehicle around in it's belly and coughing it up somewhere else. There's a lot of reef around here that it would have had to be washed over too. It makes me wonder where the owner is now and if they a curious to where there car had washed up.

Written on the back of the Landrover...I think you had a problem!
