52 weeks of memories - January

1. Summer
Ice creams down th
e beach. Bucks Bay, Carpenters Rocks

2. Happy
Playing at the Carpenters Rocks playground. Summer sporting the haircut Izzy gave her. Summer had a go at Izzys hair too. They have since been to the hairdresser. There wasn't much she could do about Summers hack job of a fringe!

3. Sky
The evening sky, on our walks after tea time at Pelican Point.

4. Together
Wednesday morning. At home, before Izzy left for her second day of school. She seemed to grow overnight in my eyes but looked extremely cute in her school dress.

Summer loves her time at home without Izzy, but she is so happy to see her when we pick her up from school.

Bungalow Bay

My place in time #20 - The end of the day

While staying in Pelican Point, the girls and I love to take a walk after tea.

We walked down the end of our road and onto the beach of what I now know, as Bungalow Bay.

These are photos of one of those enjoyable evenings, strolling on the beach and making memories.

Carpenters Rocks Community Hall

My place in time #34 - This sign makes me laugh

Well not laugh exactly, but I find it amusing. Amusing enough to make me smile and let out a quiet one breath laugh.

It makes me wonder who had the job of spray painting the signs. I love the way they have sprayed the word 'toilet' with the decoration underneath, as if to say, here is the new loo, isn't it lovely. Daggy, but with a dash of community pride. For a round concrete structure, it is quite clean, one of the best I have seen. Not only is it awesomely tiled, but is surrounded by a community hall, tennis court, camping ground, a challenging playground and an awesome free bbq area.

I am really enjoying discovering all these great things and exploring around our new second home. Like if you walk over that little sandhill next to the old loos, you come to find the fabulous Bucks Bay, where the local fishing boats moor, the kids can have a paddle in the surf or you can chuck a rod in the water. But more about that another time.

Happy Australia Day! Pride in community, is pride in ordinary places, that in our hearts and minds become extraordinary. Our country is extraordinary.

Casa Pelicano

I spent some time at our holiday house this time last week. I SO enjoyed it, I felt a shift in attitude, a good shift.

Particularly where the girls are concerned, everything become a little more relaxed. I didn't feel so stressed. We did lots of exploring and I can't wait to share it with you. We all know I love showing you our fabulous coastline!

Settlement was supposed to be finalised on the 8th of January, through no fault of ours, it still isn't done. Today might be the day! Under legal arrangement we have been renting it for $1 since the 5th.

There is still a shed to be built(in about six weeks) and fencing to be erected. It seems that blue colourbond is a very popular colour in these parts for sheds, so we'll be keeping with that theme.

Once that has been completed, we'll start renting it out as a holiday home. By then, hopefully the lawn has improved a bit! No one has lived in this home for at least two years, so the bugs and spiders had taken over. It came up a treat with lots of fly spray, a clean and airing out. We were lucky it had new carpets, a new roof, and a new lick of paint.

Most of the furniture we picked up really cheap, or family have given us. Don't tell anyone, but the green check lounge was in my brothers shed and the dog had been sleeping on it. I shampooed it and it is like new!

So here is your first tour of Casa Pelicano, 30 Racketts Road, Pelican Point. Our little holiday home we got for the bargain price of $114,000!

Basket thanks to Mrs Woog and the Market Basket Co. A surprise win just before christmas!

Dirt, sticks and bark

The last place you'd expect to find dirt, sticks and bark is in a petrol tank.

That is exactly what happened this last week.

It all unfolded last Tuesday. We went to get in my car, we were on our way to the bank to sign loan documents for our holiday home. Got the kids in the car, couldn't find keys. About to pile kids into another car and found my keys(in my pocket all along!). Started car. While putting belts on kids, the car died and would not start.

What a circus.

We ended up driving Bretts car to the bank.

Turns out, after Izzy spilled her dibber dobber guts, Summer had tipped water in the tank. It seems that that wasn't the only thing that 'Summer' had put in the tank. It's my guess that she didn't work alone.

A friend said to tip metho in the tank as it will absorb the water(who knew but it works). All good, but it still wouldn't start.

After getting the car back a few days ago, this is how the fix it job report read:

CHECKED VEHICLE NOT STARTING AFTER HAVING WATER IN THE FUEL FROM THE KIDS, FOUND STARTER MOTOR BOLTS LOOSE AND STARTED MOTOR KINKED SIDEWAYS, REFITTED ALL BOLTS AND WOUND OVER STARTED.

CHARGED BATTERY AS REQUIRED.

REMOVED FUEL PUMP FROM TANK AND DRAINED OLD FUEL OUT OF TANK, FOUND WATER, DIRT, STICKS, BARK IN TANK, CLEANED OUT THOROUGHLY, REPLACED FUEL FILTER ELEMENT , AND FILTERED FUEL AND PUT BACK IN TANK, LEAVING WATER OUT(NOT A LOT OF WATER IN IT).

REASSEMBLED EVERYTHING AND ROAD TEST OK.

RECOMMEND RUNNING FUEL CLEANER THOROUGH SYSTEM A FEW TIMES.

VEHICLE MAY EXPERIENCE PROBLEM IN FUTURE DUE TO WATER IN SYSTEM.

Let me give you a visual

dirt, sticks and bark!
Thankfully I have my car back. Three hundred and twenty four dollars later. Will definitely will be keeping a keener eye on the kids around my car!! Might also be a good time to get rid of said car!!

Bloody kids!
