Exploring Red Rock Bay

We are so lucky to have a such a fabulous natural playground right on our doorstep. Red Rock Bay is a short drive from our holiday house in Pelican Point, where we spent the weekend.

I saw things I have not seen here before and I've been here lots of times! Seals for one thing, and also real live sea urchins. The moving spines on the urchins look like moving appendages, it was mesmerising! I had only seen dead ones washed up on the shore.

Another thing that had us going for a closer look was a rusty Landrover carcass, obviously swallowed by the ocean and then spat out again, after the salty raging sea had taken it's toll. It is amazing the sea has this much force, tumbling  an entire vehicle around in it's belly and coughing it up somewhere else. There's a lot of reef around here that it would have had to be washed over too. It makes me wonder where the owner is now and if they a curious to where there car had washed up.

Written on the back of the Landrover...I think you had a problem!

Red Rock Bay

We stayed in Pelican Point for a couple of nights this weekend just gone. Saturday we headed to Mount Gambier for the annual Christmas pageant, and this is where I would usually show you photos of the many floats and characters that make up that event.

We settled in to our positions in front of Fasta Pasta on Commercial street, our usual vantage point for watching the pageant. I reached into my handbag for my camera and turned it on, only to realise at that point, that the SD card was not in it, and at home in Millicent on the computer desk.

I then came to the realisation that I'd also left my back up camera, my phone, on the kitchen bench in Pelican Point! So no photos of the pageant this year.

Before we returned to our holiday house, I ducked into Big W to get another SD card, so I could at least capture something of our weekend.

On Saturday arvo after the pageant, we tried our luck fishing at Red Rock Bay, between the Cape Banks lighthouse and Carpenter Rocks. We caught no fish, but did loads of exploring.

Adventures at the Rocks

We spent some time at Carpenter Rocks and the surrounding beaches last week.

Family from Adelaide and Melbourne were renting our holiday home, they had a fantastic week, and LOVED exploring and having fun in the area.

It was a pleasure to have them and look forward to seeing them again next year!
