Exploring Red Rock Bay

We are so lucky to have a such a fabulous natural playground right on our doorstep. Red Rock Bay is a short drive from our holiday house in Pelican Point, where we spent the weekend.

I saw things I have not seen here before and I've been here lots of times! Seals for one thing, and also real live sea urchins. The moving spines on the urchins look like moving appendages, it was mesmerising! I had only seen dead ones washed up on the shore.

Another thing that had us going for a closer look was a rusty Landrover carcass, obviously swallowed by the ocean and then spat out again, after the salty raging sea had taken it's toll. It is amazing the sea has this much force, tumbling  an entire vehicle around in it's belly and coughing it up somewhere else. There's a lot of reef around here that it would have had to be washed over too. It makes me wonder where the owner is now and if they a curious to where there car had washed up.

Written on the back of the Landrover...I think you had a problem!

Sunsets for the soul

These photos are a few weeks old. I've only just had time to edit and post them.

We stayed at our holiday house in Pelican Point in the Limestone Coast of South Australia.

I got the chance for a walk down the beach on my own, with my camera.

These houses are situated on the beach front. Ours is on the back streets, away from the sea, which is kinda better, considering in the rough and high seas of winter, when the waves crash in their front yards!

This bay is called Bungalow Bay, so fitting....imagine being a local and seeing the changing scenes of this bay every week, we only get to see it every few weeks.

It is a real treat when the sun puts on a show when we are there.

In the morning we went exploring at Red Rock Bay, where there are more awesome sights.

Crabbing at The Point

The kids love to go crabbing at Pelican Point. There is one part of the beach that is covered in rocks, and every turned stone reveals several crabs, scurrying for shelter. We collected them in a green castle bucket. I drew a line in the sand, then we laughed and squealed as we watched the crabs race back to the rocks, seeing which one would cross the line first. Good fun.

The girls and I spent a good part of Sunday morning wandering around the beaches of Blackfellows Caves and Pelican Point, while Brett and Jake went out fishing in the boat.
