ICAD 2019 - Week 7

It's been two weeks since the Index Card a Day challenge has finished. I enjoyed getting my head around the prompts, to be creative everyday in June and July.

Here is Week 7 (I am so behind in sharing). There is two more weeks, 8 & 9, which I will share on Monday.

I you can't wait until then you can see them all on my Instagram feed.

Index card a day - Week 5

29. Terra cotta
Terracotta warrior just rolls off the tongue and was one of things that came to mind for this prompt. Again, good old pencil drawing has given me a quick finish for a card.

30. Lemon or Lemonade
Water colour, texta and sharpie

31. Mismatched
Blue and green should never be seen unless there's something in between. I remember hearing this saying passed around at high school. Does it really break any fashion rules though?

 32. Caramel
I used a small glass tile I found in the bottom of my wardrobe of all places, when I was getting out the sewing machine(which lives at the bottom). I used it for a stamper with watercolour to create these square caramels.

33. Ogee
This prompt had me googling for answers. Ogee is an S shaped line or moulding, usually in architecture. Most images showed an archway, where the top and bottom lines of the arch end up parallel.

34. Constellation
Inspired by The Bachelor promo, "Okaaay...I'm a Gemini".

35. Pine tree
Pine plantations are plentiful in our part of the world. Every now and then we go out and collect pine cones for our wood fire. This is one of those cones.

ICAD 2019 - Week 2

Still going strong in week 2 with the creativity, however I am finding it hard some days to fit it in, so have been doing catch ups. Not finding it a chore at all, I am enjoying the opportunity to create.

I love the freedom to be able to use any medium I have on hand and just go with what comes into mind with the days prompt. I am finding things around the house or garden for that matter to help me be creative, like autumn leaves or things from the kids toy box!

Paint chips, sharpies and water colour paint are again featuring this year. My stash of wool and fabric are coming in handy also.

I wonder what the next week will bring!

Day 8 Goggles - Sharpie and coloured pencil

Day 9 - Macaron Water colour paint, paint chip cards and pencil

Day 10 Sapphire - Water colour paint using a cutter from the kids playdoh tub
Day 11  Palm - Water colour paint and sharpie

Day 12 Tapestry - water colour paint and wool embroidery

Day 13 Balcony - water colour paint

Day 14 Thread - raided the fabric box and got busy on the sewing machine

Index card a day 2019

Index card a day for 2019 begins tomorrow. In case you've never heard of it, ICAD(for short) is a creative art challenge that runs from the June 1st until July 31st. This is the ninth year anniversary for the 61 day art challenge.
.
I have only participated once before, in 2016, where I used the hashtag #aliciaobrienicad when posting photos of my completed daily cards. I'm going to continue using it this year on Instagram and Facebook.

In 2016 I used lined, 6 x 4 inch index cards, because that's all that was available in our local newsagent. The cards fit perfectly in a gift box of the same size and I still have my cards from
that year stored away in the box.

The newsagent had only blank index cards the other day, so I am working with a blank canvas this time round. I am excited to get started!

Let it be known, I love stationery. Accumulating new paints, pens and markers for the challenge was a joy! My previous ICAD efforts included a lot of using paint sample chips also, so I am going to relieve the local hardware store of some of those today. I've already used them on my title card for this year and really loved using them in 2016.

The other medium I realised I had a liking for was using black felt pen over a water colour background, so I will try to explore that again this time.

Are you an arty, creative person? Tell me about your last fling with creativity.

ICAD 2016 - The ninth and final week

The final week for ICAD 2016, was way back on the last week in July!

I have finally done the last two prompts I hadn't gotten around to doing. We were rather busy at the end of July, with a gym concert and a trip to the snow, and the index card a day challenge was a casualty.

I posted my cards every week, so to dot all the I's, here is that last week of prompts, almost three months late!

Week 9

#57 Stickers

#58 Graffiti

#59 Hopscotch

#60 Sorbet

ICAD 2016 - Week 7

ICAD #43 mint
This is a hybrid Minties and Mentos card. A local servo was giving away free mentos with fuel purchases. I put the wrappers to good use. I also had no idea there was a choc mint flavour, they taste pretty good too. Minties always remind me of my grandad. Whenever he came over, us kids were so excited because his pockets would be full of Minties, just for us.

ICAD #44  Rainbow making machine
This is where rainbows come from. Right?

ICAD #45 Play on words
Pardon the pun

ICAD # 46 Lighthouse

ICAD #47 Monochromatic
Monochrome doesn't necessarily mean black and white. I was looking through and old magazine to cut from, and there seemed to be lots of green, so I went with it.

ICAD #48 Aurora borealis
A bit of an abstract one.

ICAD #49 superhero
It took me a lot of years, to realise my mum is a superhero.
