The mother pluckin baggage area

Shopping with kids can be a pain in the arse. Forget about looking for anything for me, they are going off in all directions, all the sparkly new stuff is too much of a distraction. That's usually about when the wee dance kicks in and we take a detour for the nearest dunny.

Self service checkouts are stressful with kids. They all want to scan thier own stuff, and will chuck a hissy fit at the checkout because they want to scan it themselves. If you are extremely lucky they will loudly refuse help when clearly they are having trouble. They're fighting over shit to scan and as soon as they hear the beep, they want it on their person right there and then.

If that's not bad enough, you hear an annoying lady voice, not unlike the one on automated phone calls, that you inevitably tell to fuck off at some stage. She is telling you, "Please put item in the baggage area".

Except it is not in the baggage area, it is on the person who is screaming like a banshee because they want to carry it now! Like NOW! That's when the dragon lady within you starts rearing her ugly head, which you have to keep down, because you're already attracting a bit of attention now from everyone within thirty metres. You calmly try to convince the child they have to put the item on the goddam baggage area. Not unlike a princess when her son has just refused to high five the prime minister, except I was not crouching down. The queen would be proud of me.

Kids want their stuff straight away. As soon as it goes in the bag, they are crying about where thier new shirt is, and if not then, it's as soon as you've put it in the boot and you are clicking their hysterical arse into thier car seat. Inevitably things are sweet, as soon as you walk through the door they race off to their respective bedrooms for a fashion parade of all the pretty items. I look for the nearest wine glass.

Going off your seething dragon lady nut in a public area is not very pretty, or dignified. You wait til you are safely departing the car park with all the windows up before the dragon lets loose with a barrage of loudness that only a mother is capable of. It shuts them up, sometimes they'll laugh, or argue back. It rarely makes me feel better.

How I feel after shopping with the kids
In twenty or thirty years at Christmas time, they will reminise and joke about how Mum used to lose her shit in the car. My brothers and sisters used to think Mum was a psycho, we have a ball reminding her of how fucking crazy she was. There was five of us, and she has recently told us we were a mob of arseholes. We think it's funny as fuck, we also love her more than any other person in the world.

Fuck the self service area, unless of course you're on your own and don't feel like human interraction today. Then it is perfectly acceptable.

Getting out of the house. Making it my mission.

Brett took the girls for a drive yesterday, about lunch time. I sat and watched Landline on the ABC. I am never disappointed when I watch that tv show, always an interesting story.

After Landline had finished, I took a walk around the yard. To be quite honest I got a bit bored.

Shame on me, I am always whining about not having time for myself, to do the things I want to do. I am pretty lucky, I always find time for a cuppa tea and a flick through a foodie mag. I used to be so into gardening mags, but nowadays it seems to be food mags, It probably explains my widening girth too. Something about my eyes being bigger than my belly.

It may have a big thing to do with my depression pills too. The doctor did warn me that my appetite would increase taking them. The urges to stuff my face with ALL the food, are getting harder to ignore, my will power is definitely struggling.

I too, am kicking myself that I haven't taken more advantage of the longer evenings of daylight savings, and gone for walks after dinner. Last year I remember taking off immediately after dinner, leaving Brett to take care of the kids, so I could get out for a walk on my own. Major doh!

Autumn has come all too quickly, and the shorter days are creeping up, along with the season of comfort food! My stretchy pants are becoming so more comfy and I fear half of my wardrobe is becoming obsolete.  I need to give myself a major kick up the fat arse! I think I need to make a point of taking young Summer for more bike rides during the day. Getting of the house more is going to be my mission, and not in the car!

I did however, when I should have been enjoying some time alone, mow the lawn. As you do. Well I am guessing most of you don't!

When I finished mowing, they weren't home yet, so I took myself off to the local Plants Plus. A wonderful one it is too, I wish I had more money to spend there.

I spent $20(my budget) in no time, quite happily, and left with a renewed skip in my step.
I bought a packet of 30 ranunculus corms and a few plants from the bargain bins, that just need some love by getting them out of the pot and into the ground! I am so looking forward to those Ranunculus flowering in Spring. They are so awesome as a cut flower.

What are you regretting not doing over the Summer?
What are you getting excited about for the coming year?

Let's go fly a kite....

My lovely sister in law looked after the kids Monday, I got to shop, on my own. Got the christmas gifts sorted, just have to get my Dad some scratchies and Boggy....something. What, I don't know.

This year I've been diaryless, I missed out on one of the Gardening Australia diaries last year, they sell out fast. While I grabbed one for Mum for chrissie, I nabbed one myself. I love them! I will be way more organised next year, I hope.

I filled my arms full of stuff at our local Target Country. I only went in there for one thing, but walked out with lots of markdowns, like my sexy cosy sock slippers. It's still quite cold here, supposed to warming up in the coming weeks though, so we should have nice weather for Christmas. Picked up a kite too out the bargain bin and we went flying yesterday.

Have you got Christmas sorted?
Found any bargains while out shopping?
