How will we get there? - Kindergym transport theme

I can't believe we are half way through the year, AND in week 10, the last week of Term 2 here in South Australia.

I've survived being the sole Kindergym coach at our gymnastics club for two whole terms, and I am enjoying it so much!

When I first started planning Kindergym sessions, I had the help of my predecessor, who was great in sharing her resources and ideas. I also tried to look online for ideas, searching Kindergym themes, but there's not much out there specifically aimed at Kindergym.

With that in mind, I thought blogging some Kindergym theme ideas would be a fabulous thing to do, incase other Kindergym coaches were looking for inspiration.

Our theme for this term has been "How will we get there?". So a transport theme. Cars, trucks, trains, planes, boats and buses. Stop, go and wait. Fast and slow.

We've been cooling down at the end of sessions with Wheels on the bus, and Row, row your boat, along with our favourites Der Glumph and Open, shut them.

Let's go to the zoo!

I returned to work last week, with Term 1 of Kindergym at the gymnastics club.

One good thing about this job, I don't have work in the school holidays. I do know what teachers go through now though, with all the extra work and preparation that goes unnoticed.

This terms' theme I decided on was "Let's go to the zoo". Lots of amimal themed activities and locomotive movements-
  • swinging on bars, like monkeys
  • tip toes, reaching up tall like a giraffe on the beam
  • Balancing like elephants on a piece of 'string', which will probably be a rope on the floor
  • sliding like snakes
  • kangaroo jumping in hoops
  • leaping like frogs on felt lillipads
  • galloping over jumps like horses
  • feeding hungry alligators
  • crawling through tunnels like a wombat
  • bear, crab and spider walks
  • rabbit bunny hops in hoops
  • rolling down slopes like crocodiles rolling(log rolls)
  • rolling down slopes like echidnas (egg rolls)
  • penguin walks on double beams
We have a great gym here in Millicent, loads of fantastic equipment and space.

I do have to make a few things to go with the terms theme though, and thank goodness for google and the amazing crafters that share how to make stuff. I have found a wealth of ideas to help me.

Seahorse made out of pool noodle. I use this for an ocean theme too.

Elephants out of paper plates

Felt lilly pads for frog leaping, this was made by my predecessor who left at the end of last year.

Alligator made from a box. Beanbags for feeding. I also use this one for my Pete the Cat themed class. In the books, Pete the cat has an alligator friend who is always hungry.

Jump over the snake
Rope ladder climbing between the parallel bars. Watch out for lions!

Weaving through cones and over jumps

I sat up last night and made some zebras to hang up. Some binoculars(not shown) from toilet rolls too, to find animals. This helps kids explore all of the gym, and maybe they might have a go on something they normally wouldn't.

Peaking a rosebud- Life this week

This weekend I am sitting here, alone. Yip Yip! I've just picked a fragrant bunch of flowers, told an automated phone survey chick to fug off (after I've hung up of course), and am on my second glass of red. Yip Yip!

Brett's taken the girls to the holiday house, with a mate and his girls, to get some more work done on the patio. Good luck with that boys.

I have all day and a glorious night to myself. Don't hurry back now.

After being crook as a dog for the past couple of weeks, this morning I've been to the doctors, on order from my husband. I keep clear of the doctors like cats steer clear of dogs, and wasn't surprised when I was sent on my way with the advice that "it's a virus". The random locum did give me a script for a puffer, which has helped. At least my lungs stay inside my body for another day.

Speaking of things leaving my body. I was worried I was at that stage where I could just about piss myself with the next cough. Turns out the two brands of cough medicine I had, cautioned a laxative effect, which had me nervous of peaking a rosebud at every cough.

In other news, last weekend we took Isabel to her second gymnastic competition, in Portland Victoria. She improved on her first competition, receiving a first ribbon this time in parallel bars. So proud.

We stayed at the Narrawong Top Tourist park, near Portland. It's a peaceful holiday spot surrounded by nature and the sea.

Our cabin was pretty basic and all we needed for one night. The last time we stayed here was in our caravan when Isabel was about nine months old. Great to revisit when the kids are much older.
