Just not cricket and other tv news

What a weekend for news!

Cricket. Gun laws and of course in other tv news, Bachelor in Paradise. Yes, I hear your collective groan.

I have been lost for good reality tv viewing since I'm a Celeb finished and lets face it, MAFS did not float my boat at all. If the previews for Bachelor have anything do go by, rivers will be cried and hearts broken. I am wondering if Kleenex have missed a good advertising opportunity here.

The bar was open and shirts were off, revealing buffed, bare chests in the first ten minutes. There's plenty to see for the male viewers as well with bum cheeks and boobs spilling out everywhere.

Fair to say, and I am not prepared for the backlash, I will be tuning in for the next instalment. Totally sucked in for the drama to follow.

I am loving what has happened in Washington DC over the weekend. It was amazing to see such a unified push to challenge the American gun control laws.

Barrack Obama took to Twitter to relay the same feelings. I replied immediately, with it being a shame he couldn't change laws when he had the chance and these people wouldn't need to march to demand change.

Brett and I were joking about going into BigW and buying a gun licence, like buying phone credit at the checkout. Gun licence, a bottle of Jack's and a hand gun for a 21st birthday. We can joke about it in Australia, but sadly in America, it's not a joke. It happens.

When I first heard the news about the admission of ball tampering by the Australian cricket team, I was disgusted. I was disappointed and mortified that they had knowingly cheated, and that the captain had allowed it to happen.

This reminded me of what happened at the Essendon Football Club in the AFL, with Lance Armstrong in cycling.

For me it is far more serious, because they are reperesenting us as a country. To play fairly. There are so many young players who look up to the test team, and I don't want them thinking this is the way to play the game.

I fell in love with cricket when I was a young teen, maybe it was at an impressionable age, and you know, good looking cricket players. But I have great memories staying up late on summer nights watching day/nighters with my brothers and sisters. The players were heroes, good men, or so I imagined. Not too disimilar to how young cricket fans adored Don Bradman and fell in love with cricket years ago.

This issue has been a hot topic in our household, we both agree that the captain had to be stood down, as he has. It is dispicable that he could have let this happen. It makes me wonder how many other players on the team that day had intended to cheat, and how many of them knew about it. Sad day for Australian cricket. It's a story I'll be keeping an eye on in the coming week.

Preserving lemons while trying to get over life lemons

Did you catch 60 Minutes last night? How brave is Imran Khan? When I was a younger, I remember watching him play cricket. I enjoy watching cricket.

When I was younger I remember having crushes on all sorts of different cricketers, him being one. So handsome and worldly.

This story made me appreciate our country. It made me appreciate the freedom my children have to an education. The security of a safe classroom and school.

So confronting to watch the images of bloodied classrooms and school bombings. God bless him in his plight to save his country from the terrors of the Taliban. I cannot see him being assassinated without an uproar from the entire nation, let alone the world.

I usually don't like to watch 60 minutes and shows like it. Too much real, and mostly the bad stuff. I am way too sensitive, and sometimes would rather not know.

I makes the life lemons that get thrown my way sometimes seem trivial.

I did have a bowl full of real lemons in my kitchen I had to use up. I still have an open jar of lemon curd in the fridge which I dip into sometimes with a teaspoon.

I preserved these lemons. Salt, lemons and a cut finger. Was fun.

I am not even sure how I am going to use them, in couscous maybe?

The recipe is on the SAXA cooking salt packet. It's basically quartering 10 lemons and juicing two more. Rub salt on the lemons and then squash them into jars with the leftover of a cup of salt, the juice and some pepper and bay leaves.

The bottom shelf in my pantry is full of preserves. As if I needed to add to it. I need to start giving stuff away.

I keep a cooking salt pig on my kitchen bench. My brother in law even used it instead of sugar in his coffee one time. I dunno how he managed to do that, considering it is no where near the kettle, where the actual sugar is. The salt pig is on a tray where the salt and pepper mills, olive oil and garlic lives.

It would have been funny if it wasn't so dumb.

See. No where near the sugar.

Just snot cricket

Watched 'Howzat' last night, the Kerry Packer cricket story. I loved it. Brett watched it too, in bed of course, after asking me "Whats the big deal about this Kerry Packer bloke?"....*rolls eyes* I never said he was the sharpest tool in the shed.

Brett used to play cricket and was quite good at it, apparently. He went and played county cricket in England for Barnsley, he met some of the cricketers played in the show, in training and mentoring sessions. I am hoping they play the rest of it, and wasn't just a teaser to get us to buy the DVDs. If I miss out it will be on my download list.

Brett doesn't play cricket anymore, I am kinda pleased about that. All the effort that goes into fast bowling, does nothing for his groin muscles, and the whining about it is very hard to listen to. As with the complaining from a game of tennis or baseball. He hasn't taken up any sport this summer, fishing will be his priority, it would be nice if he actually caught something good. Hopefully my wordless wednesdays with be adorned with many lobsters, big yummy fish, and maybe the stray octopus.

As I enjoyed the show my head became stuffier and stuffier. My throat became itchy and my chest heavy. By the time I went to bed I felt like utter shit. The kids followed suit and in the end had both of them in bed with me, trying to get either one of them back to sleep... for a couple of hours!! I'm sure they planned the tag team attack well in advance. Brett retreated to Izzys bed in the hope of some sleep.

I woke at 7 am, made myself a coffee that I couldn't taste, the satisfaction from that first cup(that never hits the sides) didn't come. My legs ached, my head ached. I blew my nose in vain, there's an endless supply of snot ready to miraculously take its place. As I looked at the tissue, because just about everyone does that...right....it's not got to be only me, I am reminded of the flourescent socks I had as a kid.

Izzy slept until 9, and Summer at 9:30, never happens. I appreciated the two hours of quiet. Izzy stayed in bed until 10:30 queitly and happily watching You tube. Never happens. She's got the laptop worked out, my job got easier the day she learned how to use a computer.

One thing we had to miss out on today, was seeing the appearance of Santa at kindergym, the last one for the year. It makes me feel for Santas everywhere, having to come in contact with snotty noses and sleeves and all other manners of germ spreadage. I wouldn't surprise if he catches everything under the sun and spends his holidays miserable and sick, probably watching cricket.

I am kicking myself we didn't go to the monday session, I was looking forward to it. I was looking forward to my excitement in the moment of seeing her reaction, and the pride of watching her going up to him for her present, taking photos. The gym instructor rang me later, saying she had presents there for the girls. Brett picked them up after work, she didn't like the sound of me and thought it best I stayed away from her! There was no way I felt like going out anywhere anyway.

We will more than likely be missing out on Santa at playgroup tomorrow as well, we had to buy present for under $10 for each of our own children. I have two $5 barbie dolls from woolies, wrapped, in the boot of my car. Looks like they will be presents from Santa, in exchange for the milk and cookies come christmas morning.

I will now be excusing myself, to go to the loo. We just ran out of tissues and toilet paper is about the next best thing!
