Hopkins River Mouth and Logans Beach - Warrnambool

During our holiday in Warrnambool, we spent a morning at the Hopkins River Mouth and Logans Beach.

From May to October, Southern Right Whales come to play, give birth and nurse their calves. But right now, it's our playground.

The beach in the background is absolutely packed with the Victorian Nippers championships.

This bush was up at the toilets/carpark. It had white butterflies all over it.

Land of the Long Weekend #openslather

It's a public holiday today in South Australia, for the Adelaide Cup, and Labour Day in Victoria. The 10th of March is also Canberra Day in the ACT, and Eight Hours Day in Tassie.

We've travelled over the border into Victoria for a few days in Warrnambool, at the Surfside caravan park. The park is chocca block, the fullest I've seen it in years. It's on the beach and the Victorian Nipper(surf life saving)championships were on, kids and good looking fit people everywhere!

With so many people, the go was getting up at sparrows fart for a shower, to avoid the line up. About five in the pm was also a bad time, I bathed the girls in the laundry tubs. So glad I had a spare bath plug in the caravan, because they don't provide them with the tub.

One of the perks of getting up early, is going out for a walk to watch the sunrise, before the kids were up. There is an awesome walking, running and cycling track along the beach, also where you will see lots of good looking fit people(that wasn't me!).

It's been a great weekend, friends joined us, and we went to the Port Fairy folk festival and checked out some of the sights.

The next long weekend we are expecting is Good Friday on the 18th of April, followed by Easter Saturday and Easter Monday, then Anzac Day on Friday the 25th of April. I am wondering how many people have put in for those three days off work in between Easter and Anzac Day!

We've been going on a few short trips of late, I am looking forward to staying home over Easter.

Are you off anywhere over Easter?

What do you get up to on your long weekends?

Picking Muntrie Berries

Muntrie berries(or munthari), are an Southern South Australian native berry. Lucky for us they grow in abundance not to far away. We drove down to Oil Rig Square, picked a container full and walked to look at the thundering sea.

I love this place.

3 easy ways with peaches and puff pastry

Our peach tree was chocka block this year, again. Too many to keep up with, we got 6 buckets all together. I have frozen a heap of stewed ones to use throughout the rest of the year.

We went away for the weekend camping, and I left a bucket full of fresh yummy peaches by the fence with a 'free' sign on them and some bags with the hope that they wouldn't take my bucket. When I got home the bucket was still full! What is wrong with people?! Free yummy peaches, hello!!

Oh well. I got my bake on.
Strudel

Peach mixture

4 peaches, peeled, seeded and sliced
1/4 cup white sugar
1 tablespoon flour
1 teaspoon vanilla essence
1/4 cup flaked almonds

Mix all together.

Use one sheet of puff pastry. Lay peach mixture down the centre. Make 1 inch slits down the edges, leaving half an inch either side of the peaches.

Fold strips over alternatively, brush with egg wash(made with a beaten egg and 1 tablespoon of water) and sprinkle with sugar. Bake for 25-30 minutes at 200 degrees.

Peach Turnovers

Using the same peach mix as above, cut one sheet of puff pastry into four equal squares. Place a heaped tablespoon of mix on one half of the square and fold over, making a triangle. Seal around the edges with a fork or your fingers.

Brush with egg wash of one beaten egg mixed with a tablespoon of water.

Bake for 25 minutes at 200 degrees

Dust with icing sugar to serve with lashings of cream!

Peach Tart

4 peaches, peeled, seeded and sliced
2 tablespoons flaked almonds, toasted
2 tablespoons sugar

Cut one sheet of puff pastry in half.

Leaving a 1cm border, scatter the almonds on each half.
Lay the peach slices in two rows along the pastry, remembering to still leave a border.
Sprinkle with sugar.
Brush edges with egg wash and bake for 25 minutes at 200 degrees.
