Dirt, sticks and bark

The last place you'd expect to find dirt, sticks and bark is in a petrol tank.

That is exactly what happened this last week.

It all unfolded last Tuesday. We went to get in my car, we were on our way to the bank to sign loan documents for our holiday home. Got the kids in the car, couldn't find keys. About to pile kids into another car and found my keys(in my pocket all along!). Started car. While putting belts on kids, the car died and would not start.

What a circus.

We ended up driving Bretts car to the bank.

Turns out, after Izzy spilled her dibber dobber guts, Summer had tipped water in the tank. It seems that that wasn't the only thing that 'Summer' had put in the tank. It's my guess that she didn't work alone.

A friend said to tip metho in the tank as it will absorb the water(who knew but it works). All good, but it still wouldn't start.

After getting the car back a few days ago, this is how the fix it job report read:

CHECKED VEHICLE NOT STARTING AFTER HAVING WATER IN THE FUEL FROM THE KIDS, FOUND STARTER MOTOR BOLTS LOOSE AND STARTED MOTOR KINKED SIDEWAYS, REFITTED ALL BOLTS AND WOUND OVER STARTED.

CHARGED BATTERY AS REQUIRED.

REMOVED FUEL PUMP FROM TANK AND DRAINED OLD FUEL OUT OF TANK, FOUND WATER, DIRT, STICKS, BARK IN TANK, CLEANED OUT THOROUGHLY, REPLACED FUEL FILTER ELEMENT , AND FILTERED FUEL AND PUT BACK IN TANK, LEAVING WATER OUT(NOT A LOT OF WATER IN IT).

REASSEMBLED EVERYTHING AND ROAD TEST OK.

RECOMMEND RUNNING FUEL CLEANER THOROUGH SYSTEM A FEW TIMES.

VEHICLE MAY EXPERIENCE PROBLEM IN FUTURE DUE TO WATER IN SYSTEM.

Let me give you a visual

dirt, sticks and bark!
Thankfully I have my car back. Three hundred and twenty four dollars later. Will definitely will be keeping a keener eye on the kids around my car!! Might also be a good time to get rid of said car!!

Bloody kids!

  4. Now that is something I haven't heard before. Don't you love it when one just can't help but spill their guts. I guess she will never be a very good at telling a lie. Glad all is fixed, kind of. Maybe it is time for a new car ;)

  8. OMG I would be so pissed if Hayley cost me $300. Lucky our cars are parked out in the complex carpark and she can't play near them.

  9. Holy shit, how the hell did they manage that? Bloody freakin' kids! Thank God we live on a very busy main road and the girls aren't/and won't be allowed to pay out the front where the cars are because this sounds exactly like something bloody Punky would do!

  10. Wow! What a story!
My brother in law just found a hat in his tail pipe from his little one. It's amazing the places they hide things.

  11. Nooooooooooooo the little shitburgers! So it's a car that doesn't need a key or flip open switch to get to the gas tank? Or are they are smart enough to open it? My mouth was gapped in horror as I read how much it cost and what they put in it! Deep breath lovely. xxx

  13. Ohhhh Noooo Alicia- I agree bloody kids. For some reason this reminded me of the things I found in the old video recorder years ago ...... cutlery, sticks and a sandwich. Children's motto seems to be if it fits in then belongs.

  16. Oh dear, what a nightmare. I don't think mine at that age would have thought to do this. Glad your car is fix and it wasn't too expensive.
