Monday we went for a short drive out of town, it's that time of year when mushrooms come popping up out of the ground.
I remember Mum bringing me along this stretch of track when I was preggers with Izzy, and the mushrooms were thick, we got two shop bags full.
I wanted to share the excitement of picking mushrooms with Izzy. We found some, we were about a week late, most of them were too far gone, the bugs had got there first. We'll definitely will be coming back in a couple of weeks to creep along this track again, looking for mushies. Izzy still won't want a bar of eating them.
Wordless Wednesday
We have just started getting really large mushrooms. I guess the weather must be right for them. It looks like a fun day out.
ReplyDeleteThe weather has been wet, but humid and sunny in the afternoon. Perfect for mushies!
DeleteThere are so many "magic mushrooms" around Canberra that I'd be frightened I'd pick the wrong ones and send my family into some sort of drug induced hallucination! LOL.

Even worse, death by mushrooms. I only pick these sort and know these ones are ok. I would know much about other sorts.
DeleteThat looks like fun!! I love mushrooms!! My kids won't have a bar of them either!!
ReplyDeleteSummer is still ok with them, she's not old enough to know better lol. But Izzy is going through a fussy stage, doesn't know what is good for her :)
DeleteYes, good collection, I love mushrooms!
ReplyDeleteohhh!!! I have never been hunting for mushrooms.. that looks like AWESOME FUN!!!
ReplyDeleteIt's good when the shrooms are there! Pretty boring when they are not. Gets us out the house anyway.
DeleteOh that looks great, we used to hunt for mushrooms when I was a child in Scotland. Oh dear, photos like this make me regret living int he Sydney suburbs, my kids are missing out on so much good rural stuff.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great day, I've always wanted to go mushroom picking. There seems to be no way that I don't love to eat them Great photos.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ana. We had them in gravy, and in salad. Going back soon to look for more :) We love creamy mushroom pasta sauce and soup!
DeleteI love both finding and eating mushrooms. Though I have never eaten any that I have found. Only ones I have bought in the shops. I wouldn't be game, nor know which ones were eatable or not. Looks like fun.
ReplyDeleteLOVE the new look blog - sorry I haven't seen it earlier, been off a bit with sick sissy and life in general kicking my butt!
ReplyDeleteAnyhoe - I used to go mushroom picking growing up, but we were sent off on the 500 acre farm, with a basket and told not to come back until the basket was full! We must have walked for hours! Great pics, Em x
Oh crap. And I bet half of you didn't even like them. They knew how to keep you busy :)
DeleteI'd be worried too because I have no idea what are the right kinds to eat.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a fun adventure.
Thanks for linking up.
Luckily my Mum has taken me lots to get mushies. If I am not sure, I am so not eating them!
DeleteWhat a fabulous adventure, and you get to eat the rewards!
